Carnival of Agilists - 11/10/05

Hello, and welcome to the latest edition of the Carnival Of The Agilists. Thanks to everyone who sent in links and suggestions and also to those who contribute to the community with their blogging brilliance.

Individuals and interactions over processes and tools

Working software over comprehensive documentation
  • Glen Alleman spoils the myth in the agile community that the Big Design Up Front (BDUF) style project is what takes place in high ceremony firms. Turns out the BDUF process does not actually exist in programs that look like they should be BDUF. Like building and flying manned spacecraft.
Customer collaboration over contract negotiation Responding to change over following a plan
  • Have you wondered why Spike Lee has been such a successful director? Zach Nies suggests it may have to do with his agile methods. Read what Zach ponders on Spike Lee and Agile. There are also some great Spike Lee podcasts links.
  • Glen Alleman provides a great lesson in his series of entries on agile project management. We have to ask ourselves "Why do we make project management so hard?" and maybe we could use a dose of that Common Sense Project Management.
Scaling Agile
  • Ryan Martens and the Rally Technical Advisory Board are working on scaling agile to the enterprise - does it require more complexity added to the agile process and tools or should we work to simplify the complexity in organizations to become more agile?  Read Scaling Agile or simplifying large development efforts in organizations to learn more.
  • EDS has been quietly building their Agility Alliance over the past year along with other enterprise notables such as Dell, Cisco, Microsoft, Oracle and others.  Pete Behrens introduces us to what they are doing in Enterprise Agility. He also exposes more on IBM's Beacon Proposal & BUP.
Fun!
  • A new form of cat competition called cat agility is taking off around the world. Could this be the next big thing for Agile? Check it out at Cats to prove that they are agile to.
  • Andy Hunt is a Supreme Nerd God with a score of 96%, the author of this post is a Low Ranking Nerd with a score of 61%. What is Your Nerd Score?

petebehrens (Pete Behrens) : @Armond_M sorry, no recording of my Leading Agility "Inside-Out" from #RallyOn2012. Will look for a future recording opportunity.

petebehrens (Pete Behrens) : (time lapse) I DID IT! I ran a 44:30 10k - on a flat sea-level course in Seattle in cool weather. Mile high #BolderBoulder next.

petebehrens (Pete Behrens) : Amazing - 5:20am in Seattle hotel, all 9 treadmills are busy. Good motivation to run outdoors today.

Armond_M (Armond Mehrabian) : @petebehrens Thanks for sharing the slides. Is there a webinar-like presentation of these slides somewhere? #RallyON2012
